Anderson police arrested a man Tuesday who had been evading capture for a drunk driving charge for more than 20 years.

As part of a stolen bike investigation, officers contacted David Doyle Abbey Jr. as he was biking along Church Street. While officers checked Abbey's bike against the stolen bike, dispatchers checked his name against any outstanding warrants.

Abbey was found to have a felony warrant for his arrest out of Marin County for driving under the Influence of alcohol or drugs causing injury.

The warrant had been issued in August of 1994. During Tuesday’s arrest, Abbey reportedly told the officer that he had been avoiding arrest for more than 20 years, calling the Marin County incident a mistake.

Abbey was booked without incident into the Shasta County Jail where he is being held without bail.
