Three Seniors at Anderson New Tech High School are taking the initiative to educate the public about firearm safety.
Cody Rodriguez, Brandon Long and Tatum Jenkins will be hosting a public discussion on gun safety later this month.
Their class project, the "Anderson New Tech Firearm Safety Initiative," focuses on the alarming statistics surrounding gun-related deaths in the North State.
Rodriguez says the issue they are addressing is gun safety, not gun control.
"We believe in the 2nd amendment, and everyone has their right to bear arms,” said Rodriguez. “But with that right comes the responsibility of being safe with your firearm."
The public discussion will take place at the Anderson New Tech cafeteria on February 13 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.
The students are also collecting gun locks that will be distributed this May at the Redding Rodeo.
A collection bin is being set up at Sportsman's Warehouse on Hilltop Drive in Redding.
The group also hopes to auction off a gun safe at the rodeo this year.
