An Anderson man lost his foot and two other people were seriously injured in a crash on Gas Point Road in Cottonwood early Monday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol Nicholis Hensher, 22, of Anderson, was driving a 2003 Toyota westbound on Gas Point Road, near West Anderson Road, around 2 a.m., when he swerved to avoid an animal.

The Toyota slammed into a metal guard rail, causing 25-year-old passenger Frank Pelfrey to lose a foot. A second passenger, 23-year-old Lisa Deaton, was in the backseat and not wearing a seat belt. The impact with guardrail led to her being ejected from the Toyota and sustaining moderate injuries.

All three were transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.

CHP investigators say it does not appear as though drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
