An Anderson man was killed and a Redding man suffered major injuries after their pickup trucks collided on Highway 273 in Redding Wednesday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened just after 10:15 a.m. when a red Chevrolet pickup collided with a white Ford F-250 as it was turning onto Highway 273 from Thomas Road.

The driver of the Ford, 77-year-old Wallace Shelton of Anderson was transported to Mercy Medical Center, but died from his injuries. The driver of the Chevy, 29-year-old Tyler Schweizser of Redding suffered major injuries and authorities say he underwent surgery Thursday afternoon at a local hospital.

The crash forced the closure of one southbound lane on 273, and the closure of both northbound lanes for more than an hour.

CHP officers say alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, but the cause remains under investigation.
