Anderson Man Hospitalized after Stabbing Juvenile

Last night at about 9:21 p.m., Anderson Police were dispatched to the home of 30-year-old Alex Santivanez Cortez for a reported stabbing that had just occurred. When police arrived on scene, Cortez was found inside his home and had sustained a significant head wound and numerous lacerations to his head and body.

According to the Anderson Police Press Release, officers also located two juvenile family members who were determined to be involved in the physical altercation with Cortez. A number of witnesses were interviewed along with the involved juveniles and Cortez. According to witness statements, Cortez had been intoxicated and began threatening both of the juveniles with a knife and hammer inside the home. Police learned that Cortez stabbed one of the juveniles in the leg and head with a kitchen knife. The juvenile had injuries consistent with being stabbed which corroborated statements received by Anderson Police.

Police also learned one of the juveniles fended of any further attack by Cortez, striking him on the head with a bat which ended the assault. Cortez was taken into custody and transported to a Redding area hospital for treatment. One of the two involved juveniles was also transported to a Redding area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The other juvenile was uninjured as a result of the incident.

Anderson Police are continuing with the investigation and criminal charges will be filed against Cortez with the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office.
