An Anderson man was arrested for public intoxication Sunday morning after he allegedly ran across Highway 273, causing his dog to be hit by a car.
Anderson police say an officer witnessed 56-year-old David Alan Dewalt walk across Highway 273 near Pinon Avenue with his dog around 1:15 a.m. Sunday. Because Dewalt was wearing dark clothing and his dog is all black, a driver failed to see them and struck the dog.
Dewalt and his dog were transported to a local animal hospital so the dog could be treated.
After the injured dog was dropped off Dewalt was arrested for public intoxication and booked into the Shasta County Jail. This is the twelfth time Dewalt has been arrested in 2014.
The dog, named Bella, is expected to survive.
