Anderson Police said in a press conference Tuesday that the main suspect in Thursday's double murder has confessed to the killings.

Officials said after his arrest, Anthony Baxter, 39, admitted in great detail to stabbing and strangling the two victims. The two victims were identified as 57-year-old Michael Helsby and 61-year-old Georgia Engelhaupt. Both victims were found dead in their Manter Drive home Thursday afternoon by their roommate.

Detectives said the victims had been dead for approximately 28-36 hours before they were discovered. Police also said the victims did know the suspect, however Anderson Police would not go into the details of their relationship or what motivated the suspect to kill the victims.

New information was revealed during the press conference. Police said a 6-year-old girl was rescued from a home on Shasta Street in Anderson where the suspect was found. Police said as SWAT teams were surrounding the building, officers removed the girl from the home before teams arrested the suspect. Police said they will release information on how the home or the girl are connected to the suspect in the coming days.

Police said they found a hammer and drug paraphernalia related to meth use in the couple's home, but did not say whether they belonged to the victims or the suspects.

Police said the Sheriffs Coroner would release the official cause of death next week.
