A new tribal dispute among Rancheria members has forced the indefinite closure of a small Indian casino in Modoc County.
A member of the Alturas Indian Rancheria Tribal Council confirmed Monday that the Desert Rose Casino in Alturas has been shut down indefinitely.
Tribal council member Les Marston said the decision was made to close the casino so the tribe could sort out allegations of mis-management and missing revenues. Marston said the casino will be re-opened as soon as all of the issues are resolved and the safety of patrons can be resolved.
Marston said the Bureau Indian Affairs has been notified and is working with the tribe on the matter.
