A man suspected of breaking into a Paradise business is in custody after police spot him with the stolen goods on his back. Officer Bob Haskins responded to a commercial burglary at City Shoes in the 75-hundred block of the Skyway about 7:10pm Christmas Eve. While on scene investigating the incident, Officer Haskins received a report of an intoxicated man at the corner of Bille Road and Skyway, near City Shoes.
Officer Haskins located 38-year old James Forrest Williams stumbling on the side walk. Haskins was extremely intoxicated and was wearing clothing suspected to have been stolen from City Shoes. Williams was also found in possession of addition items suspected to have been stolen from City Shoes. Officer Haskins attempted to place Williams under arrest when William's allegedly assaulted Officer Haskins. As a result of the struggle, both Officer Haskins and Williams landed on the ground and the struggle continued. An off duty police officer and a retired Butte County Deputy Sheriff observed the struggle between Officer Haskins and Williams and stopped to render assistance. Williams was taken into custody and had to be placed in a restraint device for the safety of officers and Williams.
Officers determined a cement block was thrown through the City Shoes store window and that Williams was responsible for the burglary. Williams was arrested for burglary, possession of stolen property, threatening a police officer and violation of Post Release community Supervision and booked into Butte County Jail.
