An Anderson man is headed back to jail for the eighth time in a year after he was arrested for allegedly stealing a pickup truck outside a gas station early Saturday morning.

According to the Anderson Police Department, 26-year-old Timmathy Morton stole a pickup truck as the owner was inside the Safeway gas station on Balls Ferry Road around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

The owner of the truck, who reportedly left the key in the ignition, saw the vehicle in reverse as he was inside the store. He ran outside, jumped in the truck bed and began beating on the back window in an effort to make the suspect stop, however Morton did not stop and he was thrown from the truck as the suspect sped out of the parking lot.

Morton sped down Balls Ferry Road and was stopped and detained by Shasta County sheriff's deputies a short time later.

Morton was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail for felony vehicle theft and felony assault with a deadly weapon.

This is the eighth time Morton has been arrested since April 2014, and it is the third time he has been arrested for vehicle theft.
