Just after 7:30 a.m. the California Highway Patrol responded to reports that a vehicle had gone over an embankment at Swedes Flat Road and Stoney Oaks Boulevard east of Oroville.

For unknown reasons the 38-year-old man allowed his Ford F-250 to drift off the right side of the road as he was traveling eastbound on Swedes Flat Road. The truck went down a steep embankment, and came to rest on its side. The driver was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected through the open passenger side windown and was crushed by the weight of the vehicle.

CHP said that the accident happened sometime after midnight Wednesday and alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor. The driver was last seen at Golden Country Casino late Tuesday night.
