SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California's political watchdog agency has declined to open an investigation into a lawmaker whose name has surfaced in a federal investigation of a state senator.

The Fair Political Practices Commission on Monday told Democratic Sen. Kevin de Leon of Los Angeles that it will not investigate whether he requested a $25,000 contribution from the Legislature's Latino Caucus to a nonprofit.

The nonprofit, Californians for Diversity, is run by former Assemblyman Tom Calderon. FBI agents raided the offices of Calderon's brother, state Sen. Ron Calderon of Montebello, in June as part of an ongoing investigation.

Calderon has not been charged and has denied that he took money in return for promoting bills. All three men are Democrats.
