Adopt a Soldier for Christmas

Nov 15, 2013 3:05 PM

Adopt a Soldier for Christmas will be sending boxes stuffed with goodies to deployed troops.

For Troops overseas, Christmas can be an especially lonely time away from family and friends. Since 2002 Adopt a Soldier for Christmas has sent packages to Military personnel stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan to remind local soldiers and their battle buddies they are remembered back home. Each hand packed box is filled with an assortment of items, snacks and toiletries, including a handmade cap and scarf, socks, comic books and notes from school children; all donated by the community, and local businesses and packed by volunteers.

In ten years, Adopt a Soldier for Christmas has shipped over 6,500 boxes and hopes to send at least 650 packages this Christmas. There are two ways you can help. You can purchase items from the wish list and drop them in the red, white and blue Adopt a Soldier for Christmas bins located at businesses around town or make a donation for postage. All donations must be received by FRIDAY, NOV. 22nd.

A list of bin locations and items requested by the soldiers includes: Chico Theater Company, Collector's Ink, Richard Couk, D.D.S., In Motion Fitness, Paradise Auto Body,Powell's Sweet Shoppe, Redeemer Lutheran Church, The Chico UPS Stores, Wittmeier Ford & Chevy Centers and Wal-Mart. Also, starting Nov. 18th thru the 22nd from 6-9 pm, drive up & drop off donations at the North Valley Plaza parking lot behind Wendy's restaurant on Cohasset & Pillsbury Roads
