After being arrested on child abuse charges Tuesday afternoon, the District Attorney's office has filed additional charges against Sutter County Sheriff's Captain Lewis McElfresh.

McElfresh was arraigned Thursday on felony charges of arranging a meeting with a child, unlawful sexual acts with a child, willful cruelty to a child and a misdemeanor charge of molestation and indecent exposure. McElfresh has also been charged with two felony weapons charges, but Sutter County District Attorney Amanda Hopper said those charges are unrelated to the others.

After he was arrested by the Yuba City Police Department Tuesday, McElfresh was transferred to the Yolo County Jail and his bail was raised from $50,000 to $ 5 million.

During his arraignment Thursday, McElfresh's attorney requested a reduction in bail, but was denied.

The District Attorney's Office said they could not discuss specifics of the case, but Yuba City Police Department spokesperson Officer Shawna Pavey told Action News Now the victim is a family member.

McElfesh is next scheduled to appear in court early next month.
