Butte County law enforcement agencies say they arrested 73 intoxicated drivers during a ramped-up enforcement campaign that lasted through the holiday season.
This year's Holiday Avoid the 8 DUI Campaign started December 12 and lasted through Thursday night. Officers representing eight Butte County law enforcement agencies increased patrols and checkpoints to catch intoxicated drivers.
These numbers reflect a decrease from last year, when authorities made 81 DUI arrests. One death in Butte County during this period was attributed to a drunk driver.
Law enforcement officials will be conducting more Avoid the 8 DUI operations during Super Bowl Sunday in February and during St. Patrick's Day celebrations in March.
