Seven people were injured Saturday when a boat they were on stuck a bridge piling on the Sacramento River in Tehama County.
The accident happened around 7 p.m. on the west bank of the Sacramento River, in the area of E’s Locker Room on Lakeside in Red Bluff.
According to the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office, David Pieper, 64, of Red Bluff was traveling down river, approaching the Interstate 5 Bridge north of Antelope Boulevard when his boat crossed a large wake causing him to lose control. Pieper’s 20 foot aluminum jet boat struck one of the bridge pilings coming to an abrupt stop.
Pieper suffered a broken arm and a broken hip. A 22-year-old woman was flown to Enloe Medical Center with head injuries. Five other passengers suffered minor injuries.
The accident remains under investigation.
