7.2 Quake Strikes Central Philippines

The death toll has risen to 20 after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake rocks the central Philippines Tuesday morning. The earthquake struck about 35 miles deep, below the town of Carmen on the island of Bohol Island. It did not cause a tsunami in the seas around the island nation. The quake sent people rushing out of buildings and homes as aftershocks continued Tuesday. However, offices and schools were closed for a national holiday, which may lower casualties. There are also reports of damage on the nearby island of Cebu, a province of more than 2.6 million people.
