7,000 marijuana plants seized, destroyed in Shasta County

Shasta County sheriff's officials raided a marijuana grow Wednesday and arrested a man who is allegedly in the country illegally.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office Marijuana Investigative Team and California Fish and Wildlife officials conducted the raid on some land near Dersch Road in southeast Shasta County.

Alejandro Hernandez-Sanchez who was arrested on the scene, but a second Hispanic male was able to flee the scene.

A total of 7,376 marijuana plants were being grown on the land, and officials say the suspects were feeding the grow with water illegally diverted from Lack Creek.

Hernandez-Sanchez, who was found to be a Mexican National in the country illegally, was booked into the Shasta County Jail for marijuana cultivation and possession of marijuana for sale.
