A two vehicle collision shut down Highway 273 for more than an hour this afternoon in Redding.
Police say a black SUV was heading north when it crossed the center divider and slammed into an oncoming blue Dodge Durango.
Four people in the Dodge were transported to the hospital, including two young children. The driver of black SUV was also taken to the hospital. Police say injuries were minor.
“Right now, thankfully it is complaint of pain. Very very minor. This could have been a tragedy. This is outstanding outcome for everybody,” said Sgt. Casey Bokavich of the Redding Police Department.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision. At this time, police are not able to say if there will be any charges in the case.
Southbound Highway 273 was closed at Wyndham way from 1:15 till about 2:30 this afternoon. Vehicles were rerouted onto southbound Eastside Road.
