SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - California counties are still counting ballots in five close races from last week's election that remain too close to call.

In the Fresno area, five-term Democratic Rep. Jim Costa is virtually tied with Republican Johnny Tacherra with more than 11,000 votes left to count in Fresno County.

And in Sacramento County, Democratic Rep. Ami Bera has a 711-vote lead over former Republican Congressman Doug Ose. About 19,000 votes are outstanding.

Three Assembly members, all Democrats, also are in too-close-to-call races in the Los Angeles area, including Assemblyman Raul Bocanegra, who trails fellow Democrat Patty Lopez by just seven votes in San Fernando. Assemblymen Ian Calderon of Whittier and Al Muratsuchi of Torrance face Republican challengers.

Several counties are expected to update their vote counting Friday afternoon.
