5 arrested in mail drug sting, shipped off to jail

Butte County officials conducted a sting operation with officials from the United States Postal Inspection Service and Butte Interagency Narcotics Task Force, according to an agency press release. Their goal was to apprehend individuals using the Post Office to ship illegal drugs interstate from Chico.

The operation yielded more than 35 pounds of marijuana that was packaged and shipped from Chico and bound for various counties in the state of Florida. No one was injured in the sting.

Three men and two women were arrested and booked into Butte County Jail for various charges:

Jorge Luis Arevalo, 29, for possession, transportation and sale of marijuana.

Jose Antonio Diaz, 36, for possession and sale of marijuana.

Heather Ann Smith, 28, for possession, transportation and sale of marijuana.

Jason Allen Schoeppner, 26, for possession and sale of marijuana and possession of psilocybin mushrooms.

Sylvia Satara McDaniel, 24, was cited for driving without a license and for marijuana transportation.
