49ers Legend Dwight Clark Visits Chico

Hundreds of football fans lined up inside Dick's Sporting Goods in Chico to get up close and personal with a San Francisco 49ers legend.

Former wide receiver Dwight Clark, a 2-time Super Bowl champion and 2-time pro bowler spent a couple hours hanging out with fans, signing autographs, and posing for pictures.

Many people may recall Clark from "The Catch," his memorable touchdown in the 1981 NFC playoffs against the Dallas Cowboys. That famous play helped the 49ers beat the Cowboys to advance to their 1st Super Bowl, which they won 26-21 over the Bengals.

250 wristbands were handed out on a first-come, first-serve basis to fans for autographs. The line literally ran throughout the entire store and Clark said he was humbled by the turn-out.

"Really really cool man that this many people would come out especially for me, I haven't played in 25 years, over 25 years, so it's nice to see all the 49ers fans up here in Chico," said Clark.

"It's amazing how this guy could be so famous for the one catch, not to mention his entire career," said Dustin Billings.

"He was always kind of a low key guy, he wasn't a flashy type guy, I like Dwight Clark, I really do," said Kip Thompson.

"He's super cool, really nice guy so everybody that didn't come missed out," said Alexandra Godinez.

"I think this is my 3rd trip up here but I hadn't been here in at least 20 years so it was cool to see all the 49ers fans turn out for an old broken down has-been like me," said Clark.
