Recent storms are still causing problems for some people just outside Orland city limits.
According to Orland City Manager, Pete Carr, a storm on December 3 produced so much rain in one hour that it backed up the city's sewer system, causing it to overflow. Testing revealed that the rainwater and untreated sewer water mixed, and contaminated the well water. Since that time, residents of four homes on County Road MM have been under a boil advisory.
The city treated the soil with lime, and put chlorine in the well water. Now employees with the Public Works Department are on site testing the water, and sending the samples to a state-certified lab in Chico. Once the water is free of contamination, the boil advisory will be lifted.
