4 dead in Sacramento area car crash

FAIR OAKS, Calif. (AP) - Four people are dead and two others seriously injured following a car crash near Sacramento, California.

The Sacramento Bee reports (http://bit.ly/1JTCGea ) two vehicles collided head-on early Friday in Fair Oaks, which is northeast of Sacramento on the north bank of the American River.

A California Highway Patrol spokesman says one of the vehicles, carrying five passengers, caught fire, and three of the people inside were burned to death.

Another passenger died instantly upon impact, and one was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The driver of the other vehicle suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

The identities of those who died haven't been released.

The CHP is investigating the cause of the crash.
