Highway 36 in Tehama County near Paynes Creek is now open in both directions after the 36 Fire closed it down Saturday afternoon. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection responded to the blaze about 3 p.m. Saturday.
The wildfire has burned an estimated 110 acres and is now 60 percent contained as of Sunday morning. There is no word yet on the cause of the fire. Despite the reopening of Highway 36, fire officials are asking motorist to drive with extra caution through the Payne Creek area because of the presence of fire personnel and equipment trying to get full containment of the fire.
