ROWLAND HEIGHTS, Calif. (AP) - Three Chinese students attending high school in Southern California will spend years in jail for bullying a teenage classmate they allegedly stripped, kicked, slapped and burned with cigarettes.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Yunyao Zhai, Yuhan Yang and Xinlei Zhang reached a plea deal this week allowing them to avoid possible life sentences for torture.

Prosecutors say the 19-year-olds will plead no contest to kidnapping and assault and will receive prison sentences next month ranging from six to 13 years.

Yang's lawyer, Rayford Fountain, says it was too risky to go to trial.

Authorities say the three attacked Yiran Liu last year in Rowland Heights east of Los Angeles. Liu, who was 18, testified that she stripped and attacked at a park.
