The Chico Police Department was called to Home Depot this morning regarding a possible shoplifting in progress. Before officers arrived two male suspects drove away from the scene in a Chevrolet pick-up truck that was pulling a utility trailer.

The vehicle was located by an officer at the intersection of Morrow Lane and Cramer Lane. When contact was made the truck was occupied by three individuals, two males and a female.

During the investigation officers discovered that the utility trailer was stolen. The driver was in possession of a loaded handgun, believed to have been stolen during a burglary in Redding. Officers recovered a stolen apple lap-top computer as well.

The driver was arrested for taking a vehicle, the trailer, without the owner’s consent, possession of a loaded handgun in public, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, possession of stolen property, and bringing a controlled substance into a custody facility.

The male passenger was found to be in possession of property that had been stolen from the Home Depot. The male passenger also was found to have five warrants for his arrest from Shasta County. He attempted to avoid arrest by providing a false name.

The female passenger was found to be in possession of controlled substances without a prescription and possession of stolen property.

All three suspects were booked into Butte County Jail and additional charges may be filed.

Chico Police and Redding Police are working together to investigate every aspect of the case.
