Two children and one adult were killed and more than 20 other people injured in a crash involving two school buses Tuesday in Knoxville, CBS affiliate WVLT reports.

There was no immediate word on what caused the crash. One of the buses flipped onto its side; the other suffered front-end damage.

According to Knox County Schools, the buses involved involved in the accident serve Chilhowee Intermediate School and Sunnyview Primary School, the station reported. The children ranged from Kindergartners to third-graders.

Erica Estet, a spokesperson for East Tennessee Children's Hospital, confirmed to CBS News that the hospital is treating 19 patients. 18 students were transported from the accident scene and another was brought to the hospital in a private car. She could not confirm the ages of any of the patients but said none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
