2015 Gold Nugget Days Celebration starts Thursday

"Tales of Gold" is the theme of the 2015 Paradise Gold Nugget Days. The annual event is a celebration of the finding of a 54 pound gold nugget, discovered in 1859.

It all kicks off with Opening Ceremonies and the Gold Nugget Queen Contest, as well as the Whiskerino Contest on Thursday, April 23rd at 7:30 p.m., the Paradise Performing Arts Center.

On Saturday the popular Donkey Derby gets underway Saturday morning April 25th at the bridge over the Feather River at the bottom of the hill. Each donkey will be led (or pulled) to the parking lot of the old Magalia Community church for an obstackle course. This event dates back to 1959 ... the first year of Gold Nugget Days.

There is also a Biscuits & Gravy Breakfast at the Eagles hall on the Skyway from 7 a.m. until Noon, and a Pancake Breakfast at the Magalia Community Church from 7:30 - 11 a.m.

The Gold Nugget Parade winds down the Skyway beginning at Noon sharp Saturday. Attendees are encouraged to buy their Gold Nugget Day Badges to avoid being thrown in the "Calaboose". They cost just $2 and it's a fundraiser for the Gold Nugget Museum.

Speaking of the Museum, that's where you'll find a Deep Pit BBQ from 1-4 p.m. following the parade The cost is just $10. There is also a Children's Costume Contest at the Museum at 2 p.m.

The Paradise Recreation and Park District is hosting the 37th annual Gold Nugget Craft Faire at the Terry Ashe Recreation Center and Park both from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday, and from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sunday

The 2015 Gold Nugget Days Melodrauma "Trouble Bubbles at the Gold Springs Hotel" promises to delight at both performances, Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m., at the Paradise Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $10.

And on Sunday the Eagle's will host another Biscuits & Gravy Breakfast from 8 a.m. - Noon. Then, the Gold Nugget Museum goes to the dogs for the Doggone Doggy Contest at 2 p.m. Participants will be judged on Best Dressed to the Theme (Tales of Gold), Best Trick, Best in Show and Most Unique.
