COTTONWOOD, Calif. (AP) - A man who allegedly gunned down a woman and her father outside a Northern California store is the woman's ex-husband.

But authorities aren't saying what sparked the attack.

Witnesses say 32-year-old John Noonkester argued with the pair before Thursday's shooting in the gated community of Lake California, 130 miles north of Sacramento.

A stray bullet struck a customer inside the store, who was treated at a hospital.

Bystanders detained Noonkester and he remains jailed. A rifle was recovered.

The Tehama County Sheriff's Office identified the dead on Friday as 29-year-old Kimberlee Thomas and her father, 53-year-old Keith Thomas.

The Redding Record Searchlight says records indicate the woman and Noonkester were divorced in March and have two young daughters.
