2 Redding elementary schools briefly locked down

Two Redding Elementary schools were briefly locked down this afternoon because of a gunman in the area.

Cypress Elementary and Juniper Elementary schools in Redding were locked down at approximately 12:30 p.m. Police received a call about a man with a handgun at the Safeway on 2275 Pine Street. The man fled the scene on a bicycle.

Police caught and arrested the man a few minutes later on Parkview Avenue near Leland Avenue.

The man was in possession of a loaded handgun and Redding Police identified him as James Noyes 26, of Redding.

He was booked into the Shasta County Jail for illegally carrying a loaded firearm and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm.

The elementary schools were on lockdown for approximately 20 minutes.
