2 people killed in early morning apartment fire in Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Two people have died in an early morning fire in Oakland that started in an apartment building and spread to a second structure.

San Francisco television station KRON reports (http://bit.ly/1MYmgQD ) that the victims, both adults, were found in a second floor apartment after firefighters responded to the 3 a.m. blaze. They have not yet been identified.

The television station says that between 35 and 40 residents have been displaced by the fire. Oakland Battalion Chief Geoff Hunter tells KRON that both the apartment building and the mixed-use structure next door suffered extensive fire and water damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
