Two people are being treated for injuries after an apartment fire broke out in Shasta Lake a little before 5 p.m. Monday.

The fire started at 4:42 p.m. in the second story of an apartment complex on Riddle Road off of Cascade Boulevard, and flames were visible from Interstate 5. Witness's say several explosion were heard when the blaze broke out.

An upstairs bedroom was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived, but they were able to knock the fire down in just a few minutes. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to just one unit.

The Shasta County sheriff's office has been called to the scene, and say they believe likely fire started as a result of illegal activity involving marijuana, but they would not get into specifics.

A 16-year-old boy suffered moderate burns, and his father suffered minor injuries. Both have been transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Action News Now has a crew on the scene and we will bring you updates as they become available.
