An Oregon man is believed to have suffered a medical event as he was driving on Highway 32 near Hamilton City, causing a crash that sent him and his wife to the hospital.
Emergency responders were called to the single-vehicle crash on Highway 32, just west of Hamilton City at County Road VV, around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Crews on the scene say the driver of the Honda CRV started coughing and passed out with his foot on the accelerator. The man's wife, who was sitting in the passenger seat, grabbed the wheel and tried to steer the vehicle, but eventually lost control.
The SUV went off the road, knocked down three trees and then came to rest on its side.
It took firefighters nearly 45 minutes to extricate the driver, who was then taken by helicopter to Enloe Medical Center. The passenger was taken to Enloe by ambulance.
