SANTA MARIA, Calif. (AP) - Two college basketball students have been arrested on California's central coast on suspicion of murder.

A statement by the Santa Maria Police department says the students were arrested Saturday by detectives probing the Dec. 30 killing of 23-year-old Terence Richardson.

The suspects' names and the circumstances of the killing were not immediately released.

The students play for Allan Hancock College, a community college of about 11,000 students whose main campus is in Santa Maria.

The college said in a statement it is "disappointed and shocked by the arrest of two of our student athletes."
