2 Chico residents arrested for alleged elder abuse

Two Chico women were arrested Wednesday morning for allegedly stealing a 77-year-old woman's checkbook and cell phone.

The theft happened after the victim was involved in minor traffic collision with 53-year-old Robin Jackson and her passenger 53-year-old Teresa Terry on Cohasset Road, just east of the Esplanade, around 11 a.m.

Jackson, the driver of a red BMW, asked to borrow the victim's cell phone, while she was using the cell phone her passenger, Terry, reached into the victim's vehicle, and grabbed her checkbook and cash.

The victim tried to grab her cell phone from Jackson, but Jackson pushed her down and the suspects fled the scene.

Just a few minutes after the robbery was reported a Chico Police Officer spotted the BMW near Nord and W. Sacramento Avenue. He stopped the vehicle and recovered the cash and cell phone, the suspects allegedly discarded the check book.

Both Jackson and Terry were arrested for robbery, abuse of an elderly person and conspiracy. In addition, Jackson was served with three traffic warrants and an additional charge for driving with a suspended license.

The victim was shaken up by the incident, but otherwise not seriously injured.
