Two bodies were found inside an Anderson home on Thomas Avenue this morning after an early morning fire broke out.
The bodies found were that of a male who had suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, and a female found lying in her bed according to Anderson Police Officer Casey Day. The man was found holding a large caliber handgun.
The bodies, both found in beds were in separate parts of the house.
During a press conference this afternoon Day said that it appeared as though the female investigator had been dead for several days before the fire.
Anderson Police say they believe the fire was started on purpose and a gas can was found near the room in which the female victim was found.
The fire was reported at 6:22 a.m. after neighbors reported hearing a few explosions and seeing the Thomas Avenue home on fire. The Anderson Police were the first on the scene and found the residence fully engulfed.
The fire was fully contained around 8:15 a.m., but at this time the cause is unknown.
The Anderson Police Department is conducting the investigation in cooperation with the California Department of Justice, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Officer and CalFire.
