Drug agents arrested two suspects Tuesday after agents discovered an alleged marijuana growing operation and a weapon by chance in Shasta County.

Jeffery Lee Cossairt, 46, and Kristy Lee Patnode, 35, were detained by Shasta County Sheriffs Marijuana Investigative Team (SMIT), after the California Department of Fish and Wildlife Watershed Enforcement Team found their grow operation while investigating potential environmental destruction.

After obtaining a search warrant, SMIT members raided a location on the 18000 block of Oasis Road in Redding. Agents found 128 plants in a green house on the property, processed marijuana and a .380 caliber handgun.

It was discovered that the suspects also had prior felony convictions which prohibited them from possessing weapons or ammunition.

The suspects were arrested and booked into Shasta County Jail.
