A 21-year-old Magalia man is facing sexual abuse charges, and a 30-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse after authorities found her two children living in deplorable conditions.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at a home on Goldcone Drive in Magalia Wednesday after receiving tips that 21-year-old Brandon Herrick was sexually abusing a 14-year-old.

Deputies forced their way into the house and found three adults and two children, a five and 15-year-old, living in a home filled with prescription pills, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and cockroaches.

The homeowner and mother of the two children, 30-year-old Larae Livermore, was arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse and possession of a controlled substance. Sheriff’s investigators say it was immediately apparent her children had been badly neglected.

Herrick was arrested and is facing five counts of oral copulation of a minor, one count of sodomy of a minor, and two counts of manufacturing and possessing child pornography.

Investigators say Livermore had recently invited Herrick to stay at the house, but it is unclear if her children are victims of his alleged sexual abuse.

The third adult found at the home was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

The two children were released to the Children’s Services Division.
