2 arrested in attempted strong armed robbery in Chico

Two men are in custody Thursday after they attempted to rob another man at an AM/PM on The Esplanade.

Police were called to the AM/PM approximately 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning on reports that a group of men were fighting with knives. No one was injured.

After further investigation, officers found two men had actually attempted a strong armed robbery on another man and he pulled a knife in self-defense.

Chico Police officers identified two suspects tried to flee in a gold minivan. The officers attempted to stop the van and the suspects fled.

Christopher Avey, 19, and Robert Poliquin, 34, both of Chico, were both detained less than a mile from the initial incident.

Both face charges of attempted robbery and resisting arrest. Avey was alos arrested for felony probation violations. Poliquin was also charged with drunken driving in addition to the charges.

Both men were booked at Butte County Jail.
