Authorities in Alameda say two men are in custody for allegedly setting at least eight fires that damaged several businesses and homes.
Alameda police Lt. Jill Ottaviano says the 27-year-old and 22-year-old suspects were arrested Sunday on suspicion of arson for the fires that occurred over a three-hour stretch shortly before 1 a.m.
Their names have not been released.
Alameda Fire Chief Michael D'Orazi says crews from Alameda County, Oakland and Berkeley helped battle the flames which spread across a seven-block radius.
The chief says the fires either destroyed or damaged five businesses, including a family-owned restaurant, a dry cleaning establishment and three homes, displacing four families.
