Fire officials say crews have a 150-acre fire northeast of Redding 60 percent contained and expect to have the fire fully contained by 6:00 p.m.
The fire was reported just east of Bella Vista off Highway 299 and Dry Creek Road, around 1:40 p.m. and has quickly spread, destroying a building in the process.
The fire is burning in a Cal Trans construction zone and has forced the closure of part of Highway 299. One way traffic control is in effect and HWY 299 has been closed eastbound at Deschutes Road.
Traffic is moving very slowly and motorists are being encouraged to stay away from the area if possible.
Initial reports say the incident began as two spot fires. Shasta County Cal Fire, the Redding Fire Department, The U.S. Forest Service along with other agencies are battling the blaze.
Officials say the fire may be human caused, but it continues to be investigated.
