California Highway Patrol officials say a 14-year-old girl was killed Wednesday night when the SUV she was a passenger in spun out and rolled off the side of Highway 65 in Yuba County.
According to the CHP, three people were traveling northbound on Highway 65 near Forty Mile Road around 9:30 p.m., in a 2005 Chevy Tahoe, when the 16-year-old driver drifted onto the east shoulder of Highway 65. In an effort to correct the vehicle, the driver rapidly turned the steering wheel causing the SUV to skid out of control.
The SUV spun off of the highway and rolled over.
A 14-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene, while 49-year-old passenger Sean O'Neill, of Grass Valley, suffered major injuries. The driver suffered a laceration to her head, but is expected to be OK.
