An 11-year-old Marsh Junior High School student hit by a truck this morning while riding to school is expected to be okay.

A man who had just dropped his child off at Marsh was driving toward Forest Avenue on Humboldt Road when the boy, riding his bike in the wrong direction, against traffic, tried to make a sudden turn.

The man swerved into the oncoming lane to avoid hitting the boy but his passenger side view mirror still clipped the boy in the head, knocking him off his bike.

The boy was fully conscious, standing, and talking to paramedics when Action News Now arrived on-scene but he was still taken to Enloe Medical Center via ambulance.

Chico Police Officer Mike DiGiordano says the driver was not on his phone or otherwise distracted and did the right thing to avoid what could have been a major accident.
