10-year-old killed in alleged DUI crash in Redding

A 10-year-old is dead and one man is behind bars after allegedly causing two DUI accidents in Redding.

Around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, 26-year-old Charles Canfield was driving a 1995 dodge pickup truck on Hartnell Avenue near Churn Creek Road when he crashed into a taxi cab and fled the scene.

The taxi cab driver is okay.

Later, Canfield approached the intersection of Northwoods Way, ran a red light and crashed into a 2001 Mistubishi Coupe, killing a 10-year-old passenger.

That 10-year-old has not yet been identified.

Canfield then fled that crash on foot.

Authorities found and arrested Canfield for murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit and run causing injury.

He was then booked into the Shasta County Jail.
