A tour bus that had already crashed at a Denny's in Red Bluff early Sunday morning, ran off Interstate 5 in Shasta County hours later, killing one person and injuring 32.
California Highway Patrol Officer Jeff Borgen says the bus traveling from Los Angeles to Pasco, Washington, crashed Sunday morning about 100 miles south of the Oregon border in Pollard Flat at 7:41 a.m. It had hit a Denny's restaurant in Red Bluff earlier in the morning, but no one was hurt in that crash.
Borgen says a 33-year-old man from Parlier was killed, the man's identity has not been released.
Hospital officials say three people were in critical condition and three were in serious condition. Two dozen other passengers were treated at local hospitals for minor injuries. Most had been released. Patients who have been treated and released have been put up in a hotel by the Salvation Army and Red Cross.
Investigators say early indications show driver fatigue may be to blame for both crashes. The driver who has been identified as 67-year-old Jose Victor Garcilazo Palencia of Los Angeles, he voluntarily went to CHP headquarters for questioning and evaluation.
