One person was killed in a head-on collision that happened around noon and closed Highway 99 four miles south of Live Oak for more than an hour.

24-year-old Travis Byram was driving northbound on Highway 99, just north of Live Oak Boulevard when Derrick Robert, 56, of Yuba City, was pulling out of the parking lot for the Lomo Cold Storage Facility. Robert pulled his 2003 Chevrolet S-10 in front of the 1996 Chevrolet S-10 driven by Byram. Byram attempted to brake and swerve out of the way, but struck Robert’s vehicle on the left side, causing fatal injuries.

The crash is still under investigation, but drugs and alcohol are not considered to be a factor.
