One man is dead and another seriously injured after being shot in the face Monday during an early morning shootout on Highway 70 in Oroville.
The Butte County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of gun shots fired into a vehicle on Highway 70 south of Nelson Road and the Grand Avenue off-ramp in Oroville at 1:50 a.m. Monday.
While deputies were investigating the incident, Chico Police told the Sheriff's Office two gunshot victims had arrived at Enloe Medical Center. Both victims were rushed into surgery, but one was pronounced dead at the hospital.
At this time the suspects are unknown, and it has not been determined if the shooting is gang related, although the victim's do not have any gang affiliation.
The shootout is the second in Butte County in the last three days. On Saturday, around 1:15 p.m., witnesses reported shots fired near Flyer's convenience store off Cohasset Road. Several Asian men from two cars were allegedly firing at each other before crashing separately in the parking lot behind Panda Express.
Four people were taken into custody, but three suspects remain at large.
