One person has died after a single vehicle crash on South Avenue near Stephens Road Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened just before 12:30 p.m. Thursday when a 1991 Ford Explorer traveling eastbound on South Avenue swerved into oncoming traffic then swerved off the road slamming into a walnut tree.

The vehicle immediately went up in flames with the driver trapped inside. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The body was badly burned and at this time it is unknown if the driver was male or female.

Traffic is currently moving in both directions, but officials say traffic controls will be in place until at least 3:30 p.m.
