OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Oakland police say a 36-year-old man was killed and three other people wounded in a shooting on a city sidewalk.
The shooting occurred around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday in the city's Fruitvale district. Sgt. Eric Milina tells the Oakland Tribune (http://bit.ly/1dnByjV ) the four victims were on a sidewalk when a gunman approached them and opened fire. The shooter then fled.
Police have not identified a suspect or released the victims' names.
One of the three surviving victims, a 26-year-old woman, was in critical condition. The other two, a 24-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, were listed as stable.
Milina says investigators have not determined what prompted the shooting or whether the victims and gunman knew each other. He says one of the victims has refused to cooperate with police, and another told investigators she just happened to be walking by.
